AVCO
High-performance valves and flow measurement for fluid and steam control.
AVCO is Alloy Valves and Control, Inc., a valve and flow-instrument manufacturer founded in 2000 and based in Santa Ana, California. The line splits into two halves that are unusual to find under one roof: engineered quarter-turn and multi-turn valves, and differential-pressure flow measurement primaries such as orifice plates, venturis and flow nozzles. AVCO states its products are engineered, assembled and tested in the United States, that it is ISO 9001:2015 certified and a Women Business Enterprise, and that many items meet the Buy America provision of the 2009 Recovery Act.
What we carry, by measurement
Pick what you’re measuring.
The core of the line: a family of series that share a design language but are aimed at very different services, from a low-cost utility valve up to trunnion and cryogenic construction.
Industrial Ball Valves, 1100 Series
The general-purpose industrial ball valve and the reference product the rest of the line is built around.
Use it whenUse it when you want a solid process ball valve for ordinary plant service and none of the special conditions below apply -- it is the default and the easiest to get configured and automated.
Economy Ball Valves, 100 Series
A lower-cost ball valve for less demanding duty.
Use it whenUse it when the service is utility-grade -- shop air, water, drains, non-critical isolation -- and price and availability matter more than an engineered body. Do not use it to save money on a process line that will be cycled hard or that sees aggressive media.
Sanitary Ball Valves, 2100 Series
Ball valves built for clean service, aimed at pharmaceutical and food and beverage work.
Use it whenUse it when the process has to be cleanable and the piping is sanitary -- pharma, food, beverage. Reach for this instead of the industrial series any time product contact and cleanability are part of the spec.
Cryogenic Ball Valves, 1500 Series
Ball valves configured for low-temperature service, including extended bonnets.
Use it whenUse it when the medium is liquefied gas or otherwise very cold. A standard ball valve will not seal or stay operable at cryogenic temperature, so this is a substitution you make on temperature alone, not on preference.
Diverter Ball Valves, 1800 Series
Multi-port ball valves that route flow between two paths rather than simply stopping it.
Use it whenUse it when you need to send one stream to either of two destinations -- filter A or filter B, tank or recycle -- and you would otherwise install two valves and a tee. One body, one actuator, fewer joints.
V-Port Control Ball Valves, 1700 Series
Ball valves with a V-notched ball so the valve throttles in a controlled way instead of simply opening and closing.
Use it whenUse it when you need to modulate flow and a globe-style control valve is more valve than the job needs, or when the medium has solids that would foul a conventional control trim. Pair it with a positioner; do not expect control performance from a standard round-port ball.
Trunnion Ball Valves, 1200 Series
Ball valves with the ball supported top and bottom on trunnions rather than floating on the seats.
Use it whenUse it when the valve is large or the pressure is high enough that a floating ball would load the downstream seat too hard. Trunnion construction keeps operating torque reasonable at size and class.
The linear and butterfly side of the catalog, sized and classed for general plant piping rather than for severe service.
Butterfly Valves
Quarter-turn butterfly valves for larger-line isolation and coarse throttling.
Use it whenUse it when the line is big enough that a ball valve gets expensive and heavy, and full-port straight-through flow is not required. Standard choice for water, cooling and low-pressure service at 4 inch and up.
Gate Valves, 1116 and 1226 Series
Gate valves rated ANSI Class 150 or 200 psi, offered flanged (1116) and NPT (1226).
Use it whenUse it for on-off isolation where you want a straight-through, low-pressure-drop path and the valve will sit fully open or fully closed for long stretches. Do not use a gate valve to throttle.
Globe Valves, 2116 and 2226 Series
Globe valves rated ANSI Class 150 or 200 psi, flanged (2116) and NPT (2226).
Use it whenUse it when the duty is throttling or frequent adjustment on a smaller line and you want the tighter shutoff and finer control a globe gives you, accepting the higher pressure drop.
Check Valves, 3116 and 3226 Series
Check valves rated ANSI Class 150 or 200 psi, flanged (3116) and NPT (3226).
Use it whenUse it wherever reverse flow has to be prevented without an operator -- pump discharge, header tie-ins, anywhere backflow would damage equipment.
Knife Gate Valves, 6100 Series
Full-lug, high-performance knife gate valves in ANSI Class 150, with automation options.
Use it whenUse it on slurries, pulp, powders and other solids-bearing media that would pack the body of a conventional gate or wedge a ball. Knife gates shear through the medium instead of trapping it.
Differential-pressure primary elements and the spool work around them. This is the half of AVCO people usually do not know about, and it is where the steam-flow work lives.
Orifice Plates, paddle type
Machined paddle-style orifice plates for flow measurement, plus restriction and choked-flow duty.
Use it whenUse it as the simplest, cheapest way to get a repeatable flow signal, or -- with no transmitter at all -- as a fixed restriction to hold back flow or set a choked condition. First thing to price when someone asks for a flow element.
Universal Orifice Plates
Orifice plates built to ASME MFC-3M, AGA 3 and ISO 5167-2, in sizes 1/2 inch through 36 inch.
Use it whenUse it when the measurement has to stand up to a standard -- custody transfer, a permit, an audited energy balance -- rather than just give an operator a number. Specify the standard on the purchase order.
Orifice Flange Sets
Matched orifice flange unions with the pressure taps built in, sizes 1/2 inch through 24 inch, Classes 150 through 1500.
Use it whenUse it when you are installing an orifice plate into a new or reworked line and want the taps, gaskets and jack bolts correct from the start instead of field-drilling flanges.
Restriction Unions
Compact threaded and socket-weld restriction fittings, 1/4 inch through 2 inch, 3000 and 6000 pound ratings.
Use it whenUse it on small-bore lines where you need to limit flow or drop pressure and there is no room for a plate and flange set -- seal flush lines, purge lines, sample lines.
Meter Runs
Complete assemblies combining orifice flanges, restriction spools and honed flow tubes per AGA 3, ASME MFC-3M and ISO 5167.
Use it whenUse it when the straight-run requirements in front of and behind the element are hard to guarantee in the field, or when you would rather buy a certified assembly than hope the pipe fitter got the upstream length right.
Flow Conditioners
Inline elements, 2 inch through 36 inch, that straighten and de-swirl the stream ahead of a primary element.
Use it whenUse it when the element has to go in downstream of an elbow, a pump or a header and you cannot get the straight run the standard calls for. Cheaper than repiping and it protects the accuracy you paid for.
Venturi
Venturi tubes in sizes 1/2 inch through 24 inch, with machined or rough-welded inlets.
Use it whenUse it when permanent pressure loss matters -- large water and process lines where the pumping cost of an orifice plate over years exceeds the higher first cost of a venturi -- or when the medium is dirty enough to wear a plate edge.
Flow Nozzles
Flow nozzles in sizes 1/2 inch through 24 inch, in ASME Long Radius and Throat Tap configurations.
Use it whenUse it on steam and other high-velocity, high-temperature service. This is the element to specify for steam flow, where a thin orifice plate edge would erode and the nozzle's rugged profile holds its coefficient.
AVCO supplies the automation package with the valve rather than leaving you to assemble it.
Actuation
Manual handles, gear operators and automated actuators mounted and supplied with AVCO valves.
Use it whenUse it when you want the valve to arrive as one tested assembly instead of buying a bare valve and matching an actuator yourself -- fewer mounting-kit surprises and one party responsible for the torque.
Accessories
Limit switches and related automation hardware.
Use it whenUse it when the control system needs confirmed open and closed position feedback rather than a commanded state.
