PMV
Valve positioners and switch boxes.
PMV makes valve positioners and switch boxes - the instruments that sit on top of an actuator, drive it to the position the control system asked for, and report back where it actually is. The company was founded in Sweden in 1939 as Palmstiernas Mekaniska Verkstad, launched its first positioner in 1968 and its first rotary positioner in 1976, and has been positioners and switch boxes only since 1991. PMV's mounting kits are designed to fit the large majority of valve and actuator packages on the market, so this is an add-on line - you put PMV on whatever valve is already there.
What we carry, by measurement
Pick what you’re measuring.
Microprocessor positioners with digital communication and diagnostics. All are offered in versions matched to an area classification, and all mount to VDI/VDE 3845 for rotary and VDI/VDE 3847 for linear.
D3 and D3Ex
Positioner with a zero-bleed pneumatic relay, suitable for linear or rotary valves and single- or double-acting actuators. Available general purpose, intrinsically safe or explosion proof, with plug-in modules for limit switches and feedback. Options include 4-20 mA position feedback, integrated limit switches, 270 degree travel range, fail in last set position, external pressure gauges, integrated pressure sensors and remote mounting.
Use it whenthe one to reach for when air or gas consumption is the issue: zero bleed meets the EPA 6.0 SCFH leak limit, which means it can run on natural gas as the supply medium. That makes it the answer on remote wellhead and gathering-line valves where instrument air does not exist. Also the pick for double-acting actuators and for remote mounting away from vibration or heat.
D20 and D22Ex
Compact digital positioner for linear and rotary actuators, single acting, explosion proof version available in stainless steel or aluminium, with optional plug-in switches, HART communication and auto calibration.
Use it whenuse it when the valve is small, the actuator is single acting, and the installation needs an explosion-proof enclosure. Stainless housing is the option to quote in washdown or coastal environments.
New D20
The current compact digital positioner for single-acting linear and rotary actuators. Very high control precision even on the smallest valves. Friction clutch, compact design and single-button quick auto-calibration. Optional LCD (D22). ATEX and FM intrinsically safe and non-incendive certificates, explosion-proof version, aluminium or stainless, 4-20 mA in and out, HART, PROFIBUS PA and Foundation Fieldbus.
Use it whenthe default new-installation single-acting positioner. Lead with the one-button auto-calibration when talking to a maintenance group - it tunes in seconds, which is what people actually care about at commissioning. Specify the LCD (D22) where a technician needs to read the device at the valve.
D30
Digital positioner series with a compact modular design and a variety of mounting options for all major valve types. 4-20 mA, HART, PROFIBUS and Fieldbus, optional integrated limit switches and continuous position feedback, DTM communication for remote configuration, user-friendly menu with graphics LCD plus LED indicators, IP66 weatherproof housing, remote mounting possible for extreme conditions.
Use it whenuse it as the fully-featured plant-standard positioner where the customer wants local graphics display, remote configuration over DTM and continuous position feedback across a mixed fleet of valve types. The modular mounting is the argument when one positioner standard has to cover linear and rotary valves from several makers.
The pneumatic and electropneumatic positioners plus the modular feedback unit that bolts to them.
P5, EP5 and APEX 7000
The EP5 electropneumatic positioner is adapted from the PMV P5 pneumatic positioner. Compact and sturdy, available Standard, Intrinsically Safe and Explosion Proof. Replaceable filter, gauge ports, dampers, tapped exhaust port for venting supply media, external zero adjustment and a fully sealed cover. A wide range of mounting kits, cams and accessories.
Use it whenuse the P5 when the signal is pneumatic and the EP5 when it is 4-20 mA but the customer does not want or need digital diagnostics. This is the rugged, repairable, nothing-to-configure option - the right answer on a simple loop, in a plant with no instrument technicians, or where the existing standard is analog and consistency wins. The tapped exhaust port matters if the supply medium has to be vented away rather than into the area.
F5 Feedback Unit
A switch box that adds mechanical or proximity switches, a potentiometer or a 4-20 mA transmitter to the P5 and EP5 analog positioners. Intrinsically safe and explosion proof enclosure versions available.
Use it whenadd it when an analog positioner has to report position back to the control system. Because it is modular it needs no additional mounting bracket - so it is the clean way to retrofit feedback onto an installed P5 or EP5 instead of replacing the positioner with a digital one.
On-off position signalling: mechanical, gold-plated, reed or proximity switches in a housing that mounts directly to rotary or linear actuators, usually to VDI/VDE 3845. Selection is driven first by area classification and housing material, then by switch type.
DS/DM UltraSwitch
Explosion-proof switch box with the highest ATEX IIC rating available per PMV, in aluminium or corrosion-resistant stainless, multiple switch options, external indicator available, up to three conduit entries, pre-wired switches, IP66 and NEMA Type 4X, offered general purpose/weatherproof and explosion proof. Can also be used as a junction box for direct connection of solenoid valves.
Use it whenuse it in hazardous locations that need ATEX IIC - the top of the switch box range. The junction-box capability is worth mentioning: one enclosure for the solenoid wiring and the position switches means one conduit run instead of two.
XCL/XML
Explosion-proof approved ATEX II 2 G EEx d IIB T5, two cable entries, dome indicator or flat cover, easy mounting to VDI/VDE 3845, with mechanical, gold-plated, reed-type or proximity switches and extra terminals for a solenoid. Standards listed include ATEX, CSA, IEC, INMETRO, KOSHA, SIL and TR-CU.
Use it whenthe explosion-proof workhorse where IIB is sufficient, and the one with the broadest international approval list - use it when the equipment is going to a jurisdiction that needs INMETRO, KOSHA or TR-CU certification, or where a SIL listing is required.
PS/PM
Switch box in a Nylon (PA6/PA66) housing with good chemical resistance to solvents, bases and salts, for accurate position signalling in harsh corrosive environments. Tool-free Quick-set cams (push, set, release), flat or dome cover with indicator, mechanical, gold-plated or P+F sensor switch options, EEx ia approved versions. Mounts on rotary and linear actuators.
Use it whenuse it where the atmosphere eats metal enclosures - chemical, chlor-alkali, coastal, wash-down. The non-metallic housing is the reason to choose it, and the tool-free cams make it the fastest to set up in the field.
WS/WM UltraSwitch
A simpler switch box in aluminium or corrosion-resistant engineered resin, domed and flat indicators plus a low-profile cover with no indicator, multiple switch options, IP66/67 and NEMA Type 4X, offered for intrinsically safe and non-incendive hazardous locations, direct mount for rotary and linear indication.
Use it whenthe cost-efficient default for general and intrinsically safe duty where you do not need an explosion-proof enclosure. Pick the low-profile no-indicator cover where the valve is in a tight or high-traffic location and a dome would get knocked off.
The integrated on-off controller and the DTM software used to configure and diagnose the digital positioners.
Aviator II
An integrated on-off valve controller in aluminium with capacity to Cv 4.5, described by PMV as industry-leading capacity. Meets corrosive, hazardous and non-hazardous location valve control and positioning needs. Certified IECEx Ex d, ATEX Ex d, CSA Ex d and INMETRO Ex d.
Use it whenuse it when an on-off valve needs the solenoid, switches and position indication in one explosion-proof device instead of three separate items bolted to the actuator. The Cv 4.5 is the selection point: it is what lets one unit stroke a large actuator quickly, so reach for it on big automated valves that have to move fast.
ValveSight DTM
Diagnostic and configuration software with a dashboard interface that does not require the user to navigate alarms to understand device health. Available for HART, Foundation Fieldbus and PROFIBUS, with DTMs for the D3, D20 and D30. Free download including the Advanced Diagnostic DTM with step and ramp tests. Pressure sensors are required for friction measurement.
Use it whenoffer it whenever a customer buys D3, D20 or D30 positioners - it is a free download and it turns the positioner into a diagnostic tool. If the customer wants friction trending to predict packing problems, they must order the positioner WITH integrated pressure sensors; the software cannot do it otherwise. That is the one thing worth catching at order time rather than after.
