SICK makes sensors for industrial automation. For an instrumentation buyer the relevant slice is SICK's process sensor line: compact pressure transmitters and switches, resistance thermometers, level sensors, and flow sensors that go on machines, skids, hydraulic units and utility lines. SICK's separate process analytics business, the gas analyzers and gas flow meters used for emissions monitoring and custody transfer, is now sold through Endress+Hauser rather than through SICK directly.

PBT
General purpose electronic pressure transmitter for liquids and gases.
Use it whenThe default pick when a machine or hydraulic circuit needs a plain analog pressure signal and there is nothing unusual about the media or the process temperature. SICK positions it as the all-rounder, so start here and only move up if something in the application rules it out.
PFT and PFT-2
Pressure transmitter aimed at more demanding precision measurement in liquids and gases.
Use it whenMove to PFT when the loop needs tighter measurement than the general purpose unit gives, or when the process runs hotter than a PBT will take without a cooling element. It is the step up inside the same family rather than a different kind of device.
PBS plus
Pressure switch with display and switching outputs.
Use it whenUse this when you want the decision made at the sensor rather than in the PLC, for example a pump interlock or a filter alarm where an operator also wants to read the value locally. Choose a transmitter instead if the control system needs the analog value.
PBS Hygienic
Pressure sensor built for hygienic process connections.
Use it whenSpecify this on food, beverage, dairy or pharma equipment where the sensor has to survive clean-in-place and the connection has to be crevice-free. Do not substitute a standard industrial body just because the pressure range matches.
PAC50
Pressure sensor used on pneumatic and vacuum applications.
Use it whenReach for this on vacuum grippers, pneumatic clamping and handling equipment, where the question is whether the vacuum or air pressure is present and in range, not high-accuracy process measurement.
Contact temperature measurement in liquids and gases: screw-in and insertion resistance thermometers plus temperature switches.
TCT
Universal Pt100 resistance thermometer in a compact stainless steel housing, offered with a range of process connections and insertion lengths.
Use it whenThe workhorse choice for a straightforward temperature point in a pipe or tank where you need a Pt100 signal back to the control system. Pick the insertion length and process connection to suit the fitting you already have.
TBS
Temperature sensor and monitor using a Pt1000 element, with binary switching outputs and an analog output.
Use it whenUse this on machine utility fluids such as hydraulic oil, coolant and cleaning liquid when you want a local trip point as well as a reading. It is the switch-plus-signal option, so it saves adding a separate thermostat.
THTE, THTL and THTS
Screw-in and insertion thermometer variants within the SICK temperature range.
Use it whenSelect among these on mechanical fit: how the sensor enters the process and how deep it has to reach. Confirm the exact variant against the current SICK datasheet before quoting, since these differ mainly by construction rather than by function.
TSP
Temperature sensor variant in the SICK process temperature line.
Use it whenTreat this as a construction option to be confirmed on the datasheet rather than a distinct application category. Ask SICK or Endress+Hauser applications support if the fit is not obvious.
Continuous and point level measurement for liquids, using guided wave, capacitive and ultrasonic methods.
LFP Cubic
Continuous level sensor for liquids using time domain reflectometry, where the time between the transmitted pulse and the reflected pulse gives the level.
Use it whenChoose guided wave when you need a continuous level reading in a tank and foam, changing density or a dirty surface would upset a simpler method. It is the general answer for tank level on process and machine tanks.
LFP Inox
Continuous level sensor in a stainless steel construction.
Use it whenUse the stainless version where the tank contents or the wash-down regime rule out the standard body, for example food, beverage and hygienic tanks.
LBV3xx and LBV301
Vibrating level switch for point level detection.
Use it whenUse a vibrating fork when you only need to know that material has reached one point, such as a high-level or low-level alarm or dry-run protection on a pump. It is cheaper and simpler than a continuous sensor, so do not buy continuous measurement for an alarm.
LFH, LFC and LFV200
Additional point and continuous level variants in the SICK level range.
Use it whenNarrow these down on media and mounting rather than on the family name. Get SICK or Endress+Hauser to confirm the selection where the tank contents are sticky, foaming or coating.
UP56
Ultrasonic level sensor.
Use it whenConsider a non-contact ultrasonic measurement when nothing should be immersed in the product, for example a sump or an open channel. It is a poor choice where foam or heavy vapour sits above the liquid surface.
Flow measurement on machine utilities, compressed air and bulk material streams.
FTMg
Flow sensor for compressed air and non-corrosive gases such as argon, helium, carbon dioxide and nitrogen, reporting temperature, pressure and energy consumption as well as flow.
Use it whenThis is the one to reach for when a plant wants to find compressed air leaks and put a cost on air use. Because it reports energy as well as flow, it suits a compressed air survey or a sub-metering programme, not just a flow interlock.
T-Easic FTS
Compact flow sensor and flow switch for liquid lines.
Use it whenUse this for cooling water and coolant circuit proof-of-flow, such as verifying flow to a weld gun, a mould or an extruder cooling circuit. It answers is it flowing rather than exactly how much.
FFU
Flow sensor for liquid media in the SICK flow range.
Use it whenConsider this where a machine builder wants flow monitoring integrated on the equipment rather than a separate flow meter run. Confirm range and connection on the datasheet.
Bulkscan
Non-contact device that measures the volume flow and the distribution of bulk material on a conveyor belt.
Use it whenUse this when the material being measured is on a belt rather than in a pipe, for example carbon, sinter, ore or sawdust in mining, steel and cement plants. Choose it when belt loading and volume throughput are the number the plant actually wants.
This part of the SICK catalogue changed hands. Ultrasonic gas flow meter for custody transfer measurement in natural gas distribution, with onboard diagnostics and permanent operational checks.
Use it whenThis is the custody transfer meter for gas distribution, so it belongs in conversations about billing accuracy and metering compliance rather than general process flow. Quote it through Endress+Hauser.
FLOWSIC600 and FLOWSIC600-XT
Ultrasonic gas flow meters, also supplied built into the FLOWSKID600 turnkey metering system.
Use it whenUse these on larger gas metering duties where a complete engineered metering run is wanted. The FLOWSKID option is the right conversation when the customer does not want to build the meter run themselves.
FLOWSIC100
Volume flow measuring device for continuous emission monitoring, offered with corrosion-resistant materials for aggressive gases.
Use it whenThis is a stack flow device tied to emissions reporting, so it goes with a CEMS scope rather than a process flow scope.
GM32
In-situ gas analyzer that measures gas concentrations of SO2, NO, NO2 and NH3 plus reference temperature and pressure, taking the measurement directly in the gas-carrying duct.
Use it whenChoose in-situ when you want to avoid a sample conditioning system and the components of interest are the classic combustion and SCR gases. Extractive analyzers make more sense when the sample has to be dried or cleaned first.
GMS800 and S700
Extractive gas analyzers, where a sample is drawn to the analyzer rather than measured in the duct.
Use it whenGo extractive when the duct is hostile, when the sample needs conditioning, or when you need a multi-component measurement built around a chosen set of modules.
DUSTHUNTER
Dust measuring devices, including scattered-light models such as the SB30 and transmittance models such as the C200.
Use it whenUse scattered light for low dust concentrations and transmittance for higher ones. This is emissions and baghouse-performance territory, so the driver is usually a permit rather than process control.
